R. D. Laboratories, Inc. utilizes a Dr. Schleuniger Pharmatron Model 6D tester to perform tablet breaking force in Newton, Strong-Cobb, Kilopond and pound units. This instrument will also provide reliable data for chewable tablets. Hardness is often used to ensure tablet integrity (and friability) for shipping purposes and functionality during administration and packaging. For chewable tablets, this can be a critical quality control parameter for patient acceptance and safety.
